Learning Disabilities

Young people with Learning Disabilities possess numerous strengths. They also share many commonalities with all of our campers. While some things are currently more difficult for them, it is important to know that all our campers are held to the same set of expectations. Young people with Learning Disabilities Whether its dyslexia, dysgraphia, a non-verbal Learning Disability, or other type, these young people may struggle because of different learning styles. Problem solving skills, processing information, reading and writing skills, and interpretting social cues are common areas of concern.
Camp Buckskin helps our campers with Learning Disabilities improve the skills in their need areas to become more successful. We accomplish this through a structured program which provides the necessary comfort to best facilitate learning. Each day, all the campers participate daily in a mixture of activities which includes reading and writing. The goal of all activities is to gain knowledge and develop or improve skills. We need to know how each child learns best (auditory, visual, kinesthetic) and teach in that style. The skills and confidence they gain prepares them to more readily undertake future challenges.
