Location & Directions
Camp Buckskin is located in the scenic north woods of northeast Minnesota, approximately 240 miles NE from Minneapolis- St. Paul. Surrounded by the 3 million acre Superior National Forest, the grounds include both old growth White Pines, as well as many acres of new growth Jack Pine trees planted by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the early 1930’s.
Our camp is sited on 165 acres on the western shore of Lower Lake McDougal, which is one of three in a chain of lakes. The Stony River also runs through the property which provides a variety of natural environments for our campers to explore and learn about. This relaxed, healthy atmosphere provides an ideal environment in which our campers can more easily open themselves up to the therapeutic opportunities for social, emotional, and academic growth.

Getting to Camp
For the majority of our campers, we are their first away from home experience. We want to help them adjust to the new setting as quickly and easily as possible. Our caring, supportive staff will help them with this transition, which will maximize both their learning from and enjoyment of the experience. But in order for all this to happen, we obviously need to get the young people to camp.
Driving
Most of our campers are from the Midwest and driven up to camp, as we believe it to be very beneficial for both parents and campers, particularly first time attendees. By seeing camp and meeting the staff our parents are more comfortable, which definitely has a positive affect on their child. If you would be driving to camp there are many excellent hotels, resorts, state parks, camp grounds, and other sites of interest along the North Shore of Lake Superior and in the Ely area.
