At Camp Buckskin we have a number of positions that are crucial to providing our campers with a safe and positive learning experience. We need the highest quality individuals to provide the highest quality program. Our staff depends on each other for support so we need ‘team players' to work together to accomplish our purpose.

Assistant Cook
Position Description:
To assist the head cook in the overall operation of the kitchen area, and help supervise kitchen personnel to ensure safe preparation and distribution of meals.
More specifically, the Assistant Cook will train kitchen staff with Head Cook and Food Service Manager; Work with Head Cook and Food Service Manager to estimate needs, and to order, receive, and store food and supplies; Coordinate and cooperate with the Head Cook and other kitchen personnel in food preparation; Assist Head Cook in supervising kitchen staff, cooking, cleanliness, and scheduling of personnel; Prepare the daily meals as scheduled for shift; provide for special events such as cookouts and snacks, as well as for persons with special diets; Enforce all health standards and regulations established by the Health Department plus those deemed necessary by the Camp Director; Help plan menu with Head Cook and Food Service Director.
Qualifications: At least 20 years old with prior supervisory experience and leadership skills. Must be a positive role model for campers and have a willingness to work both individually and as part of a team.

Position Description:
Counselors/Activity Instructors have two main areas of responsibilities:
Counselor: The duties of a counselor include supervising the campers' daily routine, teaching campers appropriate social skills, providing positive reinforcement, managing their behaviors, general guidance, tracking social skill goals, and evaluating campers throughout the session. Counselors must be able to work collaboratively with other staff members to accomplish program objectives as well as communicate and report needs to the program supervisors.
Activity Instructor: As an activity instructor you work with other staff to assist in teaching one of the six main daily activities. These activities include swimming, canoeing, nature/environmental studies, archery/riflery, and arts and crafts. Instructors help teach three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. Activities are taught in both small and large groups. Instruction starts with the basic skills of each activity and progresses to more advanced levels. Staff provides the campers with effective instruction, positive reinforcement and the encouragement to progress to more challenging skills.
Qualifications: At least 19 years of age or have completed first year of college. You must have an interest and desire to work with children and adolescents who have social skill and learning needs. You must be a positive adult role model for our campers with a willingness to work as part of a team. Preferred certifications: current CPR and First Aid.

Position Description:
Counselors in Training/Kitchen Assistants have two main areas of responsibilities:
Counselors in Training: CITs assist the counselors in teaching one of our main activities that you are most interested in (Archery/Riflery, Arts and Crafts, Canoeing, Nature Studies, Swimming, Reading). CITs are also assigned to help with a specific cabin which includes reading a bed time story to that cabin each evening.
Kitchen Assistant: As a KA you would assist the head cook and assistant cook in the overall preparation and serving of the meals and clean up of the kitchen after meal times. Duties include following all established health standards and regulations, assisting with some food preparation, serving food on schedule, washing and putting away dishes, cleaning counters, and mopping the floor.
Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old and a positive role model for our campers. Needs to be able to work well with others and efficiently complete tasks independently as well. Applicants need to have an interest and desire to work with children and adolescents who have social skill and academic needs.

Position Description:
Will assist our maintenance head, who is responsible for general up keep and improvements to the camp grounds and physical plant. This includes but is not limited to mowing grass, weed whacking, recycle pick-up, trash removal, assisting the Directors when needed, and other maintenance tasks that may arise throughout the summer. There is the opportunity to work with the campers and other staff members during the evening in various recreational activities.
Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old. Requires some mechanical skills and knowledge (familiar with various hand tools, ability to follow safety guidelines, and follow directions from supervisory personnel). Must be a positive adult role model for our campers with a willingness to work both as part of a team and independently.

Position Description:
Overall duty of the nurse is to oversee the health and safety of our campers and staff (about 160 people). The nurse will conduct the initial health screening of all campers, provide medical attention to campers and staff with health concerns, distribute and record camper medications, maintain the Health Center records and medical forms, and be responsible for any other health care or medical concerns. The nurse also supervises the nursing assistants. The nurse has the opportunity to teach in one of our six main daily activities and assist in evening activities as well.
Qualifications: Current license as an RN. Certified in CPR, First Aid and have a valid driver's license.

Office Assistant
Position Description:
Our Office Assistants are responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the camp office. This includes answering the phone, typing reports, assisting the directors when needed, filing forms, keeping the office organized, helping staff when they come to the office, running the camp canteen, and sorting the mail. There is the opportunity to work with the campers in the evening in various recreational activities. You will also be able to read a bed time story to an assigned cabin group.
Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, have good organizational skills, and ability to work independently and with others. You must have an interest and desire to work with children and adolescents who have social skill and academic needs. Applicants must also be a positive role model for our campers and have a willingness to work as part of a team. Preferred certifications: current CPR and First Aid.

Position Description:
Our teachers will teach in our reading/writing program. This academic program is one of six main activities that the campers attend daily, Monday-Friday. Teachers will have three classes in the morning and three classes in the afternoon, each lasting 50 minutes. The average class size is 3-4 students.
Teachers monitor and note the camper's progress. They establish goals that are written into contracts for each camper to work on. At the end of each session the teacher writes a comprehensive report for each camper in his or her class. This report describes the reading program, pre and post test scores on oral reading comprehension and word identification assessments. The report also includes books the campers read, activities/coursework completed, what teaching methods or learning strategies worked best. The child's overall behavior/attitude while in reading, and any other recommendations are also included.
Teachers also are involved in helping during the evening and weekend programs, meal times, and all over camp on a daily basis. For example, on the weekends teachers can help with sports tournaments, assist counselors with cabins, monitor the swim area, or go canoeing or hiking.
Qualifications: Current teaching license is required. Preferred certifications: current CPR and First Aid.

Position Description:
Our wilderness tripping staff are responsible for planning, organizing, and leading our Senior Camper Challenge Program. The SCCP is for our returnees who have demonstrated the necessary swimming and canoeing skills, but also the group participation abilities to meet the demands of this program.
A cabin group of 7 campers and 2 counselors go on three canoeing trips of varying lengths into the Northwoods canoeing, portaging, swimming, fishing, and camping. Our goal is to further their growth and development by working on leadership, cooperation, communication, and problem solving skills.
Qualifications: Must be at least 19 years of age or have completed your first year of college. Prior camping and tripping experience is preferred. You must have an interest and desire to work with children and adolescents who have social skill and academic needs. You must be a positive role model for our campers with a willingness to work as part of a team. Must have current CPR, First Aid, Life Guarding, and Wilderness First Aid certifications.
