AD/HD

Young people with AD/HD possess numerous strengths. They also share many commonalties with all our campers. While some things are currently more difficult for them, but it is important to understand that all campers are held to the same set of expectations. Young people with AD/HD may struggle more with impulsivity, distractibility, and task completion. Organizational skills, personal boundaries, and social awareness are other areas of concern.

Camp Buckskin helps our campers with AD/HD improve the skills in their need areas to become more successful. In general, we accomplish this by teaching these young people to better recognize and understand their affect on other people. Their difficulties primarily stem from a lack of social awareness: how their words and actions impact other people, particularly their peers.

By living in a structured program with guidance from our trained staff they learn to become more aware of their role in interpersonal relations. Similarly, with consistent expectations and follow through, the campers take more ownership of their choices. This accountability helps them become more responsible and enables them to interact more positively with others.
